OMG THE TEMPERATURE IS HOT HOT HOT !!!!!!

Hola Welcome Back!!!!!!

My blog today focuses of a very important aspect in my course. My blog will be dedicated to LAPSE RATE.

Question : Can snow exist at the equator?

This was the question that kicked of class on Tuesday, this immediately had me thinking and using team skills and critical team working thinking,  The K Knights decided that snow could not have existed near the equator since the closer towards the equator the hotter it is as compare to the further away you are the cooler and colder it gets. Not willing to change our answer to the question Dr.Babb proceeded with the class.

Dr.Babb in this class introduced me better to the term  Atmosphric Cooling and Lapse Rate, both geographical term i would have encountered during my study and participation in the MetEd courses.
I was able to undersyand in my own way that Atmospheric Cooling had two sides to it that is

  • when the air is less dense it absorbs less heat
  • AS COMPARED TO
  • when the air is more dense it absorbs more heat

Through these two pointers i was able to understand in my own way high an low pressure air with the guidance of Dr.Babb's diagram.

Keeping the question of the existence of Snow close to the equator in mind we proceeding to understand the term Lapse Rate, which from my understanding it deals with height, temperature and altitude.

Given the information about lapse rate we were asked to work out the formula that would give us the temperature of the highest point in each country that was identified in the list provided by Dr.Babb. After much difficulty and putting our ideas and heads together K Knights were able to complete the formula that solved the questions.

Formula + sea level (30) - (height/1000 * average rate) =

This most difficult part of Finding Temperature for me was understanding and identifying with the formula, although it proved to be a challenge in lass for me i did appreciate how Dr.Babb allowed me to figure out the formula on my own because i was able to better understand the content that was taught and i had to use this knowledge and apply it in my formulation of the formula this required
some serious braining wreaking and critical thinking.

The completion of this exercise allowed me and K Knights to review our answer on the existence of snow near the equator. We used our points and located it on the world map where we saw some mountains that existed close to the equator and had Low Temperature which from my understanding meant that snow could have existed at the top because it would have been so cold. So through the understanding of the content and it application of my knowledge in the exercise given by Dr.Babb i was able to reflect on the question that was given at that beginning of the class.

Though this class proved to be a bit of a challenged for me personally, i did have my group K Knights who helped and guided me along this class.

LOVE YOU K KNIGHTS🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌

  1. Kristy, you responded to my guidance and that of your peers so well. How did you feel when you did not understand at first? How did you continue to challenge yourself to get the success outcome that you eventually did? How did this lesson/experience help you to understand yourself and others? What biases, stereotypes, preconceptions, and assumptions did you have? How were they changed by this lesson? What changes will you make to ensure your self-learning and self-development in the future? Looking forward to your response to these questions.
